Buying Certification Materials on Ebay

I have recently become unemployed and have been thinking about becoming a CPT for a number of years so now may be the right time. I would like to take the NASM cert but money is VERY tight. I notice that the text books are available on eBay and other places. I was wondering if that would be enough information to help me pass the exam or should I save and buy the NASM stuff from their web site?

The NASM exam is not easy at all

NASM is one of the top 3 certifications for personal trainig in the USA. That means you made a good choice, but If you don't have any previous background in Exercise Science especially Physiology and Anatomy I'm sorry my friend but you will need a lot of material to pass this test. Unless you are a really good learner you should start for an easier certification.

ebay is great

I purchased my book and study guide etc (brand spankin new) on ebay for a total of 45 bucks including shipping. This is a great option for those who don't want to spend a ton of money on the study materials. The added bonus is that if you do it that way you are not bound by the NASM 120 days to take your test rule. You can study at your own pace and not feel as pressured to get it done in 120 days etc. Great option for those of us who have other jobs and life commitments, family etc.

Good luck in your studies and please ignore the previous comment posted. You can pass this test if you study and learn the material, and I mean learn it and know it. The information is not that hard just take your time and you will be successful.

Only purchase the actual exam from NASM

It could depend on your background.

I say this because I had a lot of years worth of experience and knowledge going in. So much so that I actually could have been training clients right now if I wanted to. The only thing I needed was the certification. So I purchased the book off Amazon, and the only thing I purchased from NASM was the actual test (which includes the practice test as well). I didn't buy any of the other materials they claim you need to have. I studied the book inside and out, and took the practice test 15 times or so (there are three or four different versions). When I took the actual exam, I passed the first time and it only took me 35 minutes to complete. Like I said though, in addition to all the studying I did, I was already very knowledgeable when it came to fitness/exercise and nutrition.

If you don't know much going in and plan on learning what you need to know through your studies, then you may want to get the extra materials. However, it is still my opinion that all you need is the book and the practice exam.

NASM CPT Books

Hello everyone!

Can someone please tell me what is the latest edition for the CPT books?

I am planning to buy them used on-line and I just want to to make sure I am buying the latest ones. If you can include the ISBN number I will really appreciated.

I know I have to get the
NASM Essentials of Personal Fitness Training w/Workbook
and the DVD's I am correct???

Looking to buy the text book

The latest edition of the book is the third addition. The cheapest place that I found to buy it was on Amazon used or new its cheaper than the NASM site

NASM books

Amazon or Ebay. 3rd edition is the newest. I got my books (new) June 28, 2010.

I am currently selling my textbook and study guide on Amazon for less than 1/2 the cost of new books, and I literally read the text once, and went through the study guide once lightly with pencil (answers). Amazon doesn't have a listing for the DVD set I got, so I put those up for sale on Ebay. BTW, the videos (DVDs-- 4 in the set) and the mp3s that you can get via NASM are literally the book in video/audio format. They are all exactly the same thing!

However, this may be good, since there are some concepts on the NASM test that can only be learned through rote memorization, so repetition is key.

I passed on the first attempt, and I do not think the test is as difficult as some people make it out to be. Memorizing the chart on page 169 is probably the most difficult thing that you can do that would greatly benefit you.

Go to Amazon or to the publishers web-site ( Lippincott Williams & Wilkins) and you will see that in June 2011 a NASM Essentials of Personal Fitness Training 4th edition just came out. Which isn't advertised on NASM's web-site for some reason.

could buy on craigslist,but,,,,

Hi I saw that i could buy all of the NASM study materials from someone on craigslist, but is it true that i would still have to pay for test separately and cost me $549, when i could get all the materials for about $700 with the seminar? is there a way to sign up for the test any cheaper or does it only have to be through NASM. thanks!

u have to buy the test to take it. plus 700 dollars for the package ur going to buy adds up to around 1300 dollars. the premier package is around 800 including test. ur getting ripped off
