Cooper Institute needs to expand

Until the Cooper personal trainer certification is available outside of Dallas, I don't think it is ever going to be a big player. Even with the NCCA accreditation, Cooper has to be more accessible to attract much attention in the industry.

Cooper Certifications

The Cooper Institute offer several certification programs outside of Texas. I received the group leader cert while in Naples, Italy, Biomechanics Training cert in Jacksonville, Florida, and the Master Fitness Specialist Cert in Kings Bay, Georgia. The institute is well known especially among the military community around the world.

The Master Fitness Specialist Certification is very tough (comparable to American College of Sports Medicine exam); if you do not have a degree in sports medicine, kinesiology, etc. you will spend a lot of time studying for the test.

Cooper Certification Exam expanding testing locations is what I heard - I think this will bring this certification much more exposure throughout the Personal Training world.

I just received a email a couple of days ago and they now offer alternate testing sites. The classes are still in Dallas but at least you can test in more locations. I just attended and received my CPT cert. from Cooper Institute. I would recommend it to anyone. Here is the link with alternate testing sites.

Lifetime Fitness recognizes this certification, which is how I heard about it in the first place. It sounds good, but taking a trip to Dallas for the workshop from Ohio doesn't sound worth it. They have testing sites through Pearson/Vue, which is 10 minutes from here.
