Is Personal Training Right for Me?
Before you develop an online personal
training business or launch any new career, it
is important to take a hard look at yourself
and your future career.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Am I a people person?
- Am I a leader or do I prefer to follow?
- Am I a morning or night person?
- Am I comfortable speaking in front of a
group of people?
- Am I a go-getter?
But first...
Starting a personal training business requires
key attributes for success.
Some trainers will disagree with me on this, but to develop an online personal training business you need to be a people person. If somebody could find a way to bottle and sell charisma they would make a fortune. Because charisma, the ability to charm and influence other people, will separates the truly successful trainers from the rest of the pack.
If interacting with people comes easy to you, then great! But if that doesn't sound like you, don't give up yet. You can still succeed, you will just have to "work" to develop your people skills. |

Can you Handle the hours?
Even if you are the King of Charisma, you need to realize that a lot of personal training happens before 8am. In fact, meeting clients at 5:30 in the morning is common. After all, your clients have a busy schedule and need to be at work. So if you are a night owl, you may want to seriously evaluate whether the hours will work for you.
And if the mornings don't kill you, the evenings will. The second rush comes at 5pm when your clients get off work and head to the gym. As a personal trainer
you will miss many family dinners.
How Motivated Am I?
Before you consider starting a personal training business that is supposed to motivate other people, you better make sure that you can motivate yourself. The personal training part is often the easiest part. To successfully develop an online personal training business takes enormous amount of work in areas like bookkeeping, legal and marketing.
If that doesn't sound like you, don't worry, you just might be better suited to working as a personal trainer in somebody else's gym or health club, rather than develop an online personal training business yourself. We'll explore this choice next when we discuss personal trainer consultant or health club employee?
