Subcontractor for 24 Hour Fitness

I worked for a company called West Teleservices. As an independent contractor, I worked out of my home handling "SAVE" calls for 24 Hour Fitness. I despised working for them and quit after 2 weeks of handling their calls.
Perhaps the blame does not lie with 24 Hour Fitness, but the KPI's (key performance indicators) put upon us were quite stringent. As a member of the save team, it was my job to keep customers from canceling their membership to the gym. Quite honestly, I felt as though I were badgering these people; all they wanted to do was cancel their membership, and I had to keep making different offers to them. Most people became rather angry and the conversation would end -- after 15 minutes of badgering -- something like this, "Just cancel my bleeping membership, OK."
The pay came from West Teleservices, the company 24 hour fitness contracted to handle their save calls. I made .25 cents per call that I handled, with a small bonus for every account I was able to save. When I quit, I was averaging 1.00 an hour. I was considered an independent contractor, therefore I had no benefits. I left because the pay was the pits and I hated the job.
I can't speak for the way 24 Hour Fitness handles their employees, their personal trainers, but I can say that if they way they handled their saves was an indication, I would not enjoy working for them.
